I am happy to have been chosen to read and review this awesome book ! Before even starting I was delighted to see there was a content page showing the pages and chapters of different healing foods , house hold products and more .

The first part explains a lot of what home remedies are , what they can do , and how you can find different home remedies all around the world :)
This book was very informative and enjoyable to read , I plan to use it for myself and my husband so we can become better with Products we own . The chapter I found most helpful was chapter 3 healing foods . You will learn so many foods you love to eat or cook with are actually helping you lessen the duration or intensity of being sick .

Great book. Worth keeping at hand all the time...if people would stop borrowing it!

This book stays on my table. I refer to it regularly and have even loaned it to others. It is easy to read, well written and easy to understand. The layout is great and the cleanliness of it all...nice amount of white space and no clutter, is really nice. The information is a good mix of things I knew and things I am glad that I learned. I have already recommended this book to 10-12 people.

Home Remedies Backed by Science

Home Remedies Rx. is a beginner’s guide to relieving and treating some of the most common aliments at home, while helping you to hopefully avoid costly doctor’s visits and prescription charges.
What makes it stand out from other home remedy books on the market is that it explains the scientific reasoning behind some of the most common cures. For example, have you ever wondered why chicken soup (not the canned garbage) actual makes you feel better when you have a cold? Well research has shown the cysteine, found in chicken, “acts on the lungs the way a drug called acetylcysteine does— as a powerful decongestant for phlegm.” And who would have thought that a simple papaya could contain “enough of the enzyme papain” to cure heartburn.
Unsurprisingly some of the home remedies in this book have previously been suggested to me by my own doctor. For example, it suggests using RICE (rest, ice, compression, and elevation) for sprains and the BRAT Diet (bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast) for diarrhea. Great advice and both of these treatments are widely used and recommended by medically trained professionals.
Now while many of these remedies are feasible at home, some, like the one for kidney stones, are not for the faint of heart. I’m not sure if the author ever experienced passing a kidney stone, but waiting around in pain for hours trying to allow apple cider vinegar to break up the stone isn't something I would wish on even my worst enemy, pardon the cliché. It might work, but the suffering just isn't worth it. Thankfully, even the author acknowledges that not every problem can be cured at home and suggests throughout the book to consult with a trained medical professional if symptoms persist or worsen with home treatments.
Nonetheless, Home Remedies Rx. is an interesting book that provides an appropriate balance between passed down cures and modern medicine.

Or How to go beyond preaching to the choir

In this timely and urgently needed book, George Marshall sets out to answer several questions that he poses in the opening chapter: "What explains out ability to separate what we know from what we believe, to put aside the things that seem too painful to accept? How is it possible, when presented with the evidence of our own eyes, that we can deliberately ignore something - while being entirely aware that this is what we are doing?"

Over the course of the book, he explores the psychological and social traits that served us well over millions of years of our evolution on the savannas of Africa, but which are not serving us so well now. These include confirmation bias, present (time) focus, social conformity, group think, procrastination, valuing the messenger over the message, and the different functioning of the rational and emotional brains. He explores these issues with several psychologists and sociologists, who generally believe that climate change is "a threat that our evolved brains are uniquely unsuited to do a damned thing about", as put by Harvard Professor of Psychology Daniel Gilbert.

In order to gain the widest possible perspective on these issues, the author immersed himself into cultures that many environmentalists would consider the belly of the beast of denialism, such as Tea Party meetings and evangelical church congregations. That he is able to uncover important lessons on climate change communication from such unlikely sources is a testament to his open mindedness and humility. He believes we need to listen to everyone, and engage them on their level.

He also points out how many of the approaches taken by environmental activists have proven to be counterproductive, if the goal is to move beyond preaching to the choir. Perhaps the most important of these is the tendency of environmentalists to adhere to the "information deficit" model of communication, which is the belief that if just the right information is provided to people, that they will see the light and act upon that knowledge. Much of the content of the book consists of showing just how completely untrue this is.

He discusses how the early framing of climate change as primarily an environmental issue has caused it to become politicized, which suits the fossil fuel lobby just fine. Those whose social groups reject environmentalism as mainly the purview of egg-headed liberal elites (e.g. Al Gore), have come to distrust the message of human caused climate change because they distrust the messengers.

The author does provide recommendations for effective climate change communication, but without giving away the whole story, this quote on the need to engage both the rational and emotional aspects of our psyches sums them up well: "So, advocates for action on climate change have to do everything they can to speak to both. They need to maintain enough data and evidence to satisfy the rational mind that they are a credible source. They then need to translate that data into a form that will engage and motivate the emotional brain using the tools of immediacy, proximity, social meaning, stories and metaphors that draw on personal experience."

The book is well structured, with many easy to read short chapters that make for easy pacing. He also provides two summary chapters that distill the many points he makes, which I found very useful. My one recommendation is that grouping the 42 short chapters into larger sections would be useful in terms of grasping the information on a higher organizational level.

I believe this book is a must read for everyone involved in communicating about climate change. I propose that we place copies of this book in time capsules around the world, so that in the event our civilization does not heed its messages, at least future survivors will know why.

Incredible Original, Insightful and Funny AND Helpful for Climate Activists from All Points of View

If you are concerned with effectively communicating climate change, this book is a MUST READ -- not an exaggeration. Marshall has a set of incredibly original and insightful approaches to looking at why the issue has been divisive rather than universally mobilizing. Also it's pretty accessible in style, relatively short chapters, and often extremely funny. It's a book for communicators, activists, students of climate change history, and mostly, people who want to make sure we move forward ensuring the best future. It's a book that brings people together rather than divides. It's a book that makes hope feel possible beginning at the level of communication, which is where all other hope may begin as well too. It also shines a mirror onto how greenies need to give up "ownership" of Climate Change so everyone can feel equally entitled to claim it from many varied perspectives. Don't Even Think About It will hopefully become a critical book in the history of mass-market climate change books-- read it, give it as a gift, assign it in classes. Let's start making the change.

Essential reading for understanding how we think about, communicate, and work on climate change

In this deeply researched and surprising book, Marshall helps us understand the true nature of climate change and why it's so hard for us to act on something that threatens to destroy us.

His points are surprising and force us to reframe our entire understanding of the issue. Here are a few examples, many of which don't make sense until you get the benefit of Marshall's full explanation:

* Climate change is not a tame problem, but a "wicked" one.
* Climate change is not an environmental problem.
* Fossil fuel companies must be stopped, but they are not the enemy.
* Polar bears and our grandchildren are not the ones who need to be saved.
* Conservatives are not the enemies of climate change action, but essential allies.
* Guilt over our personal contributions to climate change and fear of what will happen are our biggest opponents.
* Climate change is not in any sense a religion, but evangelical churches may be our best models for learning how to communicate about it.

I had some anxiety as I read this book, not so much because it's about climate change, but because for the first 40 chapters or so, Marshall tells us only how NOT to communicate about climate change: why politically loaded messages hurt the cause, how making the problem scarier encourages us to ignore it even more, and how the science isn't going to convince much of anyone, for instance. I was afraid that I was going to get to the end of the book and find out that his conclusion was "So basically, we're f***ed."

Thankfully, it wasn't. At the end of the book, Marshall revisits all his key points and turns them on their heads, showing how the things we're doing wrong in communicating climate change can maybe be done differently and effectively. It's not that those of us who are working to solve the climate change problem aren't trying hard enough to communicate: it's that there's an entirely different and unexpected way for us to go about it that is likely, based on a great deal of research and investigation, to do a much, much better job.

We tend to understand climate change in limited ways, each of us confined to some extent by our peers and expectations. Marshall's book helps us break out of those limited understandings to see the big picture, and in the process to find new resolve, new allies, and new hope for immediate change.

In many cases, you may find that alternating or combining different techniques will help you stay motivated and provide you with the best results. Apart from seeing clients face-to-face, Patricia also runs a thriving online e-therapy business bringing help to those who are housebound or located where therapy is difficult to find. Her passion as a clinician is to help individuals and families get their life back, freeing them of the restraints of negative thinking, anxiety and depression by using integrative therapy approaches. She puts clients back in charge of their own destiny. Working outside of the box, she goes an extra mile to make sure that clients have access to a Behavioral Health Clinician to help between sessions, something that is greatly appreciated by clients. Patricia has experience working with clients with severe depression; bipolar, personality disorder, PTSD, anxiety, eating disorders, chemical dependency; and other mental health issues. About the Author

Maurice Druon was a French resistance hero, a Knight of the British Empire and a holder of the Grand Croix de la Légion d'Honneur. He was also a member of the Académie française and a celebrated novelist, best known for his series of seven historical novels under the title of The Accursed Kings, which were twice adapted for television. A passionate Anglophile, he was a great expert on all things English, including its medieval history, which provides great inspiration for the series. His many and diverse fans include George RR Martin, Nicolas Sarkozy and Vladimir Putin.

Tremendously good finish

The Accursed Kings series was originally made up of six volumes and the Lily and the Lion, the sixth and last volume, covered the years and the history of the Kingdoms of France and England from 1328 to the first part of the Hundreds Year War, including the disaster of Poitiers where the King of France John II was taken prisoner and the treaty of Brétigny in 1360. Most of the events in this sixth volume, however, focus on the prequels of the war, and on the main players that made it happen.

A seventh volume was published some years later (in 1970, ten years after the Lily and the Lion) and will be republished in English translation in January 2015. I will have a quite different tone to it although it will also cover the beginnings of the Hundred Years War and, in particular, “when a King lost France” (a more accurate translation than “The King without a Kingdom” which has been chosen for the English version). The reasons explaining the differences of this seventh volume are simple. It was not originally planned.

Many of the characters that the reader will have followed during the six volumes of the Accursed Kings are disposed of, one way or another, in the Lily and the Lion. This is particularly the case of the larger than life (in more senses than one) Robert III of Artois, who meets his end in this volume. Since the whole series had been centred and organised around his relentless efforts over more than two decades to recover the county of which he had been deprived at the death of his father by his aunt Mahaut, the seventh volume will need to start afresh.

It is rather difficult to write a measured review of this title, or of any of the previous five ones for that matter. This is because all of them – including this one - are simply excellent and certainly among the best historical novels that I have ever read. This one (and the others as well!) is so good and has it all that it is in fact more difficult than in most other historical novels to distinguish the historical facts from the author’s interpretations.

This is because there is very little that is invented. The historical events are accurate and very well researched, whether they take place in France or in England. The book itself is supported by historical endnotes, a list of the main characters, a list of the main sources used, and a (somewhat simplified) genealogical tree of the Capet family and its various branches. The value of this tree is that it helps understand to what extent Robert d’Artois was related to most of the powerful noble and princely families of France and Flanders and was himself a descendant of one of Saint Louis’ (or Louis IX) younger brothers, the first Count of Artois.

The characters come to life rather brilliantly and so does this whole period of the fourteenth century with its mix of chivalry and crimes, splendour and squalor. In addition to Robert d’Artois and Mahaut, which I found just as superbly portrayed as they were in the previous episodes, the characters of Edward III, of his mother Isabelle and of Mortimer were particularly convincing for me, and essentially as I would have imagined them to be. I was a bit less convinced, however, by the character painting of Philippe VI of Valois, who may not have been quite as stupid, arrogant and vainglorious as he is presented.

What the author has done in this volume, and often in subtle ways, is to slant the narrative and emphasise the influence of certain characters (and of Robert III of Artois in particular). The endless, bitter and ruthless quarrel and hatred between Mahaut d’Artois and her nephew Robert III is historical, including the last lawsuit filed by Robert against his aunt to recover Artois, which makes up a large part of this book. Also historical is his use of forged documents, the circumstances in which the fraud was discovered, the rather suspicious deaths of both Mahaut (who, however, was over sixty at the time) and of her last surviving daughter. Robert was indeed already suspected at the time – although never convicted - of having had his aunt poisoned.

Particularly noteworthy is the fact that just about all of the book’s characters, including the secondary ones, are historical, although some of the later are romanced. Jeanne Divion really existed, was condemned and burned at the stake, was also more important (she was a scion of an old noble but ruined family from Artois) than she is made to appear in the Lily and the Lion, whereas Béatrice d’Hirson, on the contrary, was an obscure lady-in-waiting of Mahaut about which little else is known. What Maurice Druon has in fact managed to do is to transfer from of the historical features belonging to the former onto the later. He also made Beatrice into one of the main and most unsavoury, but also most tragic characters of the book.

Also historically accurate are Robert’s flight in exile, the stripping of all his titles and the refuge he found at the Court of England where he did his utmost to stir up trouble, after having done much the same in Flanders. He did push Edward III to declare war and claim the crown of France through the rights of his mother Isabelle (the “she-wolf of France”), the formidable daughter of Philippe IV the Fair. However, how much influence he really wielded with Edward III is debatable, since the English King had excellent and essential reasons of his own - the crucial wool trade with Flanders, which France was threatening, in particular - to oppose the King of France’s renewed attempts to take control of Flanders. This is what led to the naval battle – and French disaster – at l’Ecluse in 1340, where the French fleet was defeated and destroyed, essentially because of the incompetence and stupidity of the French admiral.

The point here is that, regardless of Robert’s vengeful trouble-making, the Kingdoms of England and France were increasingly on a collision course, something that is also quite well shown in the book. In addition to conflicting interests in Flanders, the French supported the Bruces’ claims to the throne of Scotland, against the Balliols’, which were backed by the Kings of England. Both Kingdoms also backed, first politically and then with military forces when civil war broke out in 1341, opposing candidates to the Duchy of Britany. This civil war, in which Robert III d’Artois takes part in the initial phase and with Bretons fighting on either side, would last until 1364.

In addition, and perhaps more fundamentally since this was about supremacy in France, there was also the age-old question of the kind of homage that the King of France was able to extract from the King of England for the Duchy of Aquitaine/Guyenne. This is also something well shown in the book, with the author explaining the difference and implications between the “homage simple” and the “homage liege”, which was much more far-reaching and binding, and which the French Kings had been trying to impose on their most and much too powerful vassals since the second half of the 12th century and Philippe II August and Henry II at the latest.

A last feature of the book is the rather sad ending of the story of John I the Posthumous. Most historians nowadays accept that he died when he was five days old and of natural causes. There was however at the time rumours that the baby had been poisoned. There was also at the time a Sienese who claimed to be John the Posthumous and therefore the true heir to the throne of France and the last of the direct Capet line. His relentless attempts to be recognised happened just as shown in the book and are somewhat intriguing because you would probably not expect an impostor to continue pressing his case on and on although nobody believes him – or chooses to believe him.

This book is easily worth five stars, and I would have given it ten or fifteen stars just as easily if this had been possible since it is so good and deserves it so much, just like all of the previous volumes in the series.

An amazing read for those who adore rich historical pieces and wish to fully acquaint (or perhaps form an imaginary alliance) with figures from history. Mr. Druon takes this reader on a brilliant venture every time I open another novel in this addicting saga and The Lily and the Lion was my latest feast. Being the sixth in The Accursed Kings series it was bittersweet to realize as I finished this splendid work that only one more novel remains. But as the saying goes "all good things must come to an end" and so it goes with much to do with The Lily and the Lion.

This novel's timeline is January 24 1328 to the beginning of January 1343 and then has an additional epilogue of September 22 1354 to 1362. A lot is captured and shared with the reader and Mr. Druon had an extraordinary style in his writing that passes time effortlessly for the benefit of his readers that they are never lost with regards to time and only enjoy themselves as they rejoin their favorite characters as the years age and takes them to their next journey, alliance, deception or atrocious sin. Those familiar with this addicting series should understand all too well that no one is considered safe in these vivid pages and not to spoil anything for themselves by peeking and researching the names of characters. As always the author has stuck as close to historic fact and conjured the blood and breath to flow into his characters with his pen and this is a grand experience not to miss. Highly recommend.

About the Author
Florence W. Kaslow, Ph.D., is an internationally known and respected teacher, clinical and family psychologist, supervisor, consultant, coach, therapist, guest lecturer, and workshop leader. A Ph.D. from Bryn Mawr College (1969), she is in practice as a psychologist, family business consultant, and coach in Palm Beach County [Gardens], Florida. She is President of Kaslow Associates, a coaching and consulting firm, and a Distinguished Visiting Professor of Psychology at Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne. She was a lecturer, Department of Psychiatry of Harvard University Medical School in 1992, 1997, and 2005, an Adjunct Professor of Medical Psychology in Psychiatry at Duke University Medical Center from 1982 to 2004. From 2007-2010 she was a Clinical Professor, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Mercer University Medical School, Macon, Georgia.

A valuable contribution to the literature on divorced fathers

In the book "Divorced Fathers and Their Families: Legal, Economic, and Emotional Dilemmas", Dr. Florence Kaslow addresses an important topic that has been, up to now, neglected: The challenges of divorced men who are, and want to continue to be, good fathers to their children. Much has been studied and written about deadbeat fathers and tyrannical husbands; divorced fathers who emotionally and financially abandon their children; and fathers who use a variety of strategies, including child abuse, to get revenge on a former spouse - all important topics for understanding the dynamics of divorce. Dr. Kaslow's work in this book expands our knowledge by putting the focus on the needs and challenges of the quiet majority - good fathers who love their children and want to stay actively involved in their lives, post divorce. Dr. Kaslow lays the foundation for her book by examining the history of child custody decisions over the past 100 years, and the social and economic influences and impacts of custody decisions and trends. With scholarly rigor and clear, engaging writing, Dr. Kaslow then takes the reader through 13 cases studies that illuminate many of the specific challenges and impacts of divorce on men and their children. In the following chapters, Dr. Kaslow presents an analysis of case study data and examines the role of professional services in facilitating family health and stability. GREAT FOR THERAPISTS AND SPLIT FAMILIES

Dr. Kaslow writes a very intriguing book detailing the dilemmas facing divorced families, specifically fathers. As a therapist, I found this book extremely helpful in working with divorced clients. It provided both ideas for the direction of therapy and detailed cultural considerations for working with the client. Additionally, divorced mothers should consider this book as a guide to the after-life of a marriage from the husbands point of view. This could assist with managing the after-shocks and ensuring the emotional and mental well-being of any children. The case studies help provide perspective on the actions, considerations and emotional state of a man after the marriage has ended. It helps to understand the role of the father, the man, the divorcee, and the interruption of those functions and how they each affect the new family dynamic. I highly recommend this book for anyone that has ever experienced a divorce or works with someone who has.

Gusmar Carleix Sosa Crespo. En el año 2008 participa en la convocatoria del Premio de Ficción de la editorial Grupo Nelsón (México), la división de Nelson Publicaciones para Latinoamérica, y su novela Rubia queda entre los cinco finalistas. En el año 2010 su ensayo “El Cristianismo como Escenario”, queda como finalista entre los 91 participantes en la convocatoria de ensayos teológicos de la editorial Letra Viva. En el año 2011 con su microrrelato “Volveré a ti”, es uno de los tres ganadores de un concurso convocado por la Biblioteca Pública del Estado Zulia, (Venezuela). Ese mismo año participa en la convocatoria de Christian Editing con su relato “La fe de mi Padre”, y resulta uno de los ganadores del concurso, su relato es incluido en el libro “10 Excelentes Historias Jamás Contadas”, que se publicó a principios del año 2012 bajo el sello Christian Editing. En el año 2012 su novela Rubia es publicada. En el año 2012, su cuento “Los Ojos de Esmeralda Domaron al Tigre”, fue uno de los ganadores de un concurso convocado por Editorial Vagón (México), y se publicó en el libro “Primera Antología de Cuento de Editorial Vagón”. Su cuento “Paula Sosa y el Futuro”, se incluyó en la Antología “Nuestros Abuelos”, publicada por Casa Abuelos, Buenos Aires (2012). Ese mismo año, tres de sus microrrelatos (Dolores de parto, La alarma, Supersticiones) se incluyen en la Antología “Primeros Exiliados”, Argentina. Y también su microrrelato “Fantasma” es incluido en la “Antología en Homenaje a la Novela Negra”, publicada por Artgerust (España). En el mes de noviembre del 2012 se publican cuatro cuentos suyos en una colección titulada “Cuentos Para Morir Leyendo”, publicada por Negro Sobre Blanco Editores, en la que, junto a Richard Sabogal, incursiona en el género de la novela negra. Participa ese mismo año en la "I Colección de Cuentos Postmodernistas", con el cuento “Los Ojos de Esmeralda Domaron al Tigre”, incluido también en la antología de editorial Vagón. En el año 2013 es invitado a participar con cuatro relatos en la antología de teoficciones “Dioses Cortos y Otros Cuentos”, de Alja Editorial (México). En el año 2014 seis relatos suyos son incluidos en la antología “Padre Nuestro, Padre de Todos”, de Canah Editora, (México).
